Summary:
A new hotel opened in Singapore. This is a one of a kind hotel because it is a futuristic five star building and it has a huge skypark on top of the building. The huge hotel consists of 2560 rooms and suites, shopping areas, theatres and cinemas. The structure is worth a whopping 3.8 billion pound. The president of the hotel expects to attract around the 70.000 visitors each day which will make over 18 million a year. Many famous artists come to perform at the hotel, for example yesterday singing legend Diana Ross performed in front of 2500 VIPs.
Opinion:
I was interested when I saw the picture that came with this article. It looked really amazing and a bit scary even. If I would have the money for it I’d so go on a holiday to that hotel in Singapore. It all sounds really cool and extremely rare. No prices are shown in the article but I think I won’t be going there in the near future with the amount of money I make at the moment. But reading this article makes me really interested in that hotel so I would have to say I like the article. The slide show that is in the article as well is really astonishing and makes me want to go there.

A YOUNG fashion model was found dead in her bed by her boyfriend this morning.
Summary:
A 23 year old model was found dead this morning. Local authorities ruled out foul play even though it still remains a question mark on how or why she died. An investigation is currently going on to find out on how the women died. Hayley Anne Crook was rather famous since she has done loads of modeling work for major brands such as Wella Hair Care. She also worked as a actress and a dancer and she also performed in a touring musical Abba Fever. Her sudden death still remains a mystery.
Opinion:
This article is rubbish. People die every day and with weirder circumstances then this one. I don’t see what makes this case so special that it needs to be published in a newspaper. After reading this you find out nothing new about the death. All you read is a biography of Hayley Anne Crook. In the last sentence of the article they say that nothing is known about the cause of death….. If they would have said this in the beginning of the article you could just skip the rest. This was a waste of my time reading this article.

Extreme tennis: the demands of a 10-hour game
Summary:
Something extreme happened yesterday. In the Wimbledon court a 10 hour long tennis match took place. The two players, John Isner and Nicolas Mahut, were completely worn out after the 10 hours of play. It was decided to continue the match today after they played a shocking 59 -59 deadlock. Keeping their health in mind, in today’s match they will take it a bit more easy because they aren’t a 100% recovered from yesterdays match. It is important they take their time between points and to make sure that their breathing is right to avoid long term injuries.
Opinion:
I was really excited when I read this article. How cool is it to play for so extremely long in a row and neither one of the players is able to win. I am so going to watch this match on the television today. I do think the players should give some attention to their health because it is unnatural to play tennis for 10 hours straight. In some ways I think it could be dangerous. The information given besides the match information is rather interesting as well because suddenly a whole new area of interests opens up with a match like this one.

Pension age: Ministers to speed up rise to 66
Summary:
The government of the UK wants to raise the state pension age for men to 66 and they want to change it rather quickly. Plans are mad that before 2016 the age limit will already be changed. The pensions system, which Britain was so proud of, needs a rapid change because currently it leaves millions in poverty. That is why the government wants to change the age to 66 and perhaps even to 68. The coalition argues about whether this should be speeded up. According to some this change is unacceptable because the ‘workclass’ has a life expectancy of 77 years for men and 81 for women.
Opinion:
I totally disagree with the planning of this new change. 65 years of work should be enough for a person, male or female. If someone is expected to die around the age of 77 then the government should grand them the freedom to do whatever they want in those 12 years of pension time. If it was me and I would have to work the same factory job for another 3 to 4 years instead of living of my pension fund I’d be really pissed and so I can understand the public’s feeling around this matter.

Four British soldiers die in Afghanistan road accident
Summary:
And another four British soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan. With these four new deaths the total number of soldiers killed in Afghanistan stands at 307. The four soldiers were traveling to a nearby checkpoint where an incident occurred where they wanted to help. They were killed near Gereshk last Wednesday evening. The soldiers were traveling in an armoured vehicle which rolled off the road and ended up in the water. The Ministry of Defence announced that no enemy actions were involved with the accident. The UK will stay a 100% committed to the UK’s mission in Afghanistan.
Opinion:
Wars cause people to die. Just something you have to live with. It’s a shame British soldiers have to die all the way in Afghanistan though for some cause that isn’t to important anymore. Most soldiers dying over there are mostly meaningless deaths. If it was up to me everyone would pack up their stuff and get the hell out of Afghanistan. But my opinion doesn’t matter of course because the UK is staying in Afghanistan to fight more for justice.

Watchdog backs sex lessons for five-year-olds
Summary:
Currently in the UK the sexual education that is given is rated rather bad by students. It is either not enough or not good enough. Now the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) announced they want to start a new campaign in which sexual education is given to youngsters from the age of five and older. NICE officials announced that sexual education is more effective when introduced to young people before they have sex. Specialists give multiple reasons why it would be good to start giving sexual education to younger people.
Opinion:
Sexual education is way too early to be given to children who are only five years old. Their little minds are not ready for that kind of information and they should not be exposed to it yet. It would be better to start at the age of eight or nine in my opinion. Of course young people start having sex earlier and earlier each year but i still do not think it would be a good idea to start at the age of five. In my opinion everyone should just make sure that the sexual education given now is better than it was before and that we make sure parents have the right information as well at their disposal to straighten their children out if something does go wrong.

Fans crushed in stampede at World Cup warm-up
Summary:
Police forces lost control over a crowd of fans during the official start of the World Cup in South Africa. A unexpected big number of supporters came to watch the friendly match between Nigeria and North Korean. The stadium has a capacity of 15.000 and 8.000 free cards were handed to fans. Shortly after kick off there were still thousands of fans waiting outside the gates without tickets or with false tickets.
The people at the front were crushed by the stampede of fans. Many of the injured fans were brought to the nearby Tembisa hospital.
Opinion:
I didn’t find this to disturbing news to be honest. Football just always comes together with violence. It has been like that for years so this news isn’t that surprising. Either bring more policemen to football matches or just don’t let anyone watch the games anymore and just make them watch it at home. This is a good way to make sure there is less violence around football. It is said in the article as well that women and children were pulled from beneath the pile of crushed fans and you have to be a bit stupid to go and wait in front of thousands of fans with your kid to enter the stadium.

Graduates fear 'very limited' career prospects
Summary:
What do graduates do in the UK? Start their career, go travel or continue to study. Almost half of all the students fear that they will not find a good job after they are done with their studies, if they had known that beforehand they might have made different choices concerning their education/career. The top three career choices for the graduating students were media, teaching and marketing. Students with the highest salary expectations were law students and with the lowest were arts or humanities students. With the large amount of students from last year still looking for a job it is looking quite dark for this year’s graduate’s job opportunities.
Opinion:
This article is quite okay. There are a little to many numbers in there in my opinion. The message they are trying to bring, that it is hard for graduates to find jobs at the moment, is basically being said in the first paragraph. The salary expectations bit is just a filler. These problems probably occur in more countries than the UK. In the Netherlands many students face this problem as well.

They wait for oil. But the sea brings death instead
Summary:
Multiple endangered species people are worried about in Mississippi because of the oil disaster. Sea turtles and dolphins are the main concern. Multiple dead sea turtles were found lying dead on the shore at the beach of Pass Christian. Scientists are talking about building a barrier around the oil for about 26 miles long to preserve some of the wildlife in the sea. BP, owner of the oil rig, said that they are doing everything they can to dissolve the problem as soon as possible. Multiple solutions have been thought off by BP in order to sustain the problem.
Opinion:
To me it is very important that people know about these kind of disasters. Everything needs to be done in order to help animals from dying by oil. Not only with endangered species but with all animals. It is just horrible that animals have to suffer so much just because of the human species. I find the article well written because I find it an easy read, perhaps that is because I find the topic interesting.

Lust Vegas groom is a 3-timing rat
Summary:
In a drunken haze Nick Bond got married in Las Vegas, the city of fake marriages. The big story about this is that Bond had two other girlfriends back in the UK while getting married to the American woman. While being away his two other girlfriends, with one of whom he has two children with, thought their relationship was going splendid. Enjoying while spending time with each other and going to each other families. It was only seventeen hours after their drunken midnight adventure that Alex and Nick got married.
Opinion:
I find this news rather stupid to be honest. Who cares that some guy gets married in Vegas while having two girlfriends. The comments from people that they are complimenting Bond with his ‘Achievements’ and they want to know how he did it was rather amusing. What I did not like about the article is that they do not show whether Bond is a famous Englishmen or that he is just a common man because if he isn't a famous person than this news is totally and completed irrelevant.

Redknapp is a golden oldie
Summary:
After a good win and a soaking by one of his players the doors of fame reopened for Harry Redknapp. As coach of the Tottenham Hotspurs he brought the fallen giant back in the glory books. Redknapp got most of the credits for the win against Manchester City as he was the main strategist. With this win Redknapp secured a place in the top four of the Champions League and a chance to play in the league next season. Spurs fielded a team against Manchester with a attacking intention and it payed off because they won one to nothing.
My opinion:
The article itself I found pretty good because after reading it even I, one of the biggest male football haters, understood more about football. I do think too much credit went to Harry Redknapp, in my opinion the players of a football team deserve most of the credits to a team’s success. I do find it nice that the hotspurs are back on the right track by winning many matches.

Avatar breaks US DVD sales record
Another new record in the pocket for James Cameron, director of the blockbuster “Avatar”, with an astonishing high amount of DVD/blu-ray sales in the USA. Next Monday Avatar will be released in Britain, stores will be open at midnight so the big fans could by the film as early as possible. The previous record holder on DVD sales was ‘The Dark Knight’ in 2008. Cameron announced that the re-release version, with an extra seven minutes of footage, will be playing next summer in theatres and also that the sequel to the film would be centred around the ocean on the planet Pandora.
I found it an easy read especially because I myself am rather interested in films in general. I did find Avatar a pretty incredible film and by reading this article it kind of confirms that the rest of the world agrees since it has the largest sales on the planet. What I did find weird about the article is the sentence:“Avatar is being released in the UK on Monday. Some stores opened their doors to fans at midnight.”, if I am not mistaking this sentence is all wrong. It says that it will be released next Monday but doors to shops have already opened at midnight.

European airports start to reopen for flights
Summary:
All throughout Northern Europe airplanes slowly start to take off again from airports. The inactivity in the European airspace caused by the volcanic ash from Ireland is coming to an end. UK’s air traffic control announced that next Tuesday the main airport in London will reopen and regular schedule flights will be up in the air. The airline Body announced they have over lost over £ 650 million because the airspace was closest for about one week. The UK has deployed three navy warships in order to help pick up stranded passengers from Spain.
My opinion:
The article gave a little bit too much examples about conditions of airports throughout Europe. What I found rather annoying is that the author made sub articles in this article, for example the piece about the warships being deployed which has not much to do with airports reopening again throughout N. Europe. I did find the rest of the article rather interesting since it is a very interesting topic. The volcanic eruption all affects us since no one is able to travel around now by airplane.

Nick Clegg seizes his moment in historic TV debate summarized by janne
Summary
Leader of theLiberal democrats, Nick Clegg, won Friday night’s debate by far. He was the first one to overcome his nerves and within minutes after the debate more than 61% of the voters said that he had won the debate. Leader of the Labour party, Gordon Brown, sought common with Nick Clegg in order to isolate the third speaker, David Cameron, however Mr. Clegg smoothly avoided friendly contact from Mr. Brown. This debate was of big importance because it was the first time the three leaders had a debate face to face. For the first time in years the Liberal Democrats seemed to have a hope of giving them a run for their money.
Own opinion
My opinion on the article’s content is that it is of rather big importance to know the information given in the article when you are from Britain since the debate had a large influence on the countries future. The article is well written because you get the main point clearly and it summarizes the entire event. What I found rather funny is that the current Prime Minister (Gordon Brown) scored the lowest percentage of voters.
